2025 Fantasy Outlook
Georgiev is coming off an awful year in which he had a 15-26-4 record with a 3.71 GAA and an .875 save percentage over 49 regular-season appearances between the Avalanche and the Sharks. The Sabres have two NHL goalies on the roster already with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Alex Lyon, and another in prospect Devon Levi, who could be in contention for NHL minutes. Even if Georgiev makes the Opening Night roster, he seems highly unlikely to make a meaningful positive impact in fantasy given his steady decline in recent years. Read Past Outlooks
Waivers for contract termination
Georgiev has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, according to AHL Rochester.
ANALYSIS
Georgiev split time in the 2024-25 season between the Avalanche and the Sharks, but in his time with the Sabres organization, he has not appeared in an NHL game. With AHL Rochester, he has played in only two games, losing both of them. The 29-year-old will be a free agent assuming he clears, but there have been reports about a KHL deal being a possibility as well.

Despite playing in one more game than last season, Georgiev failed to reach the 40-win threshold in 2023-24, coming up just two victories shy. By some metrics, it was a down campaign for the Bulgarian backstop, as he posted a career-worst .897 save percentage and had a GAA above 3.00 for just the third time in his NHL career. Still, the 28-year-old netminder enters the 2024-25 campaign as the No. 1 option for Colorado - though both Ivan Prosvetov and Justus Annunen could be in line for some extra starts in the backup role. Even if he can't get his save percentage up next season, Georgiev figures to be among the top netminders taken in most drafts thanks to his heavy workload and ability to rack up wins behind a strong team.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Heading overseas?
Georgiev reportedly signed a contract with Spartak Moscow of the KHL, according to Hockey News Hub on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Georgiev was waived by the Sabres in early October. He reported to AHL Rochester, where he was 0-2-0 with an .896 save percentage and a 3.57 GAA across two appearances. Considering the netminder's lack of success in North America, he might finish out his playing days overseas.
