2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rumors of Vasilevskiy's decline ended up being little more than preseason chatter, as the netminder had one of the best years of his career in 2024-25. He went 38-20-5 with a 2.18 GAA and a .921 save percentage over 63 games, though the Lightning couldn't get past the Panthers in the first round of the playoffs. For fantasy purposes, this could be a blessing in disguise -- Vasilevksiy has seen some extremely heavy workloads over the years, but he'll have plenty of offseason to get ready for 2025-26. The 31-year-old remains among the NHL's elite goalies, and while age will catch up to him eventually, there's not enough evidence that a decline is imminent to scare off fantasy managers who like to stock up in the crease early in drafts. Tending twine against Ottawa
Vasilevskiy was the first goalie off during Thursday's morning skate, Benjamin Pierce of the Lightning's official site signaling that he'll draw the Opening Night start at home against the Senators.
ANALYSIS
Vasilevskiy dealt with an undisclosed injury for most of training camp, but he suited up in Tampa Bay's preseason finale against Florida on Saturday and will unsurprisingly draw the start in Thursday's regular-season opener. He made 63 regular-season appearances last year, going 38-20-5 with a 2.18 GAA and .921 save percentage, and he should remain one of the league's top netminders during the 2025-26 campaign.

Vasilevskiy won 30 games in 2023-24 despite missing almost two months to start the year after offseason back surgery. The campaign was rough - it's tough to step in mid-season and expect to play at NHL speed. He started to look like the Vasy of old down the stretch and had lots of time this summer to build his strength back. Vasilevskiy remains an elite option in net, courtesy of his rare combination of size, speed and athleticism. His overall stats (2.90 GAA and .900 save percentage) could keep some managers away, but Vasilevskiy should return to all-star form. While he may not be a first-round option, he figures to be one of the top goalie picks in your draft. Pro-tip on draft day? Make a mental note that his heavy workload has historically resulted in a post-All-Star dip. Consider a trade then, so that's on someone else's watch.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

LIkely to start Saturday
Vasilevskiy, who has been dealing with an undisclosed injury, is poised to start against the Panthers in Saturday's preseason finale, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vasilevskiy will get a last-minute tune-up ahead of the regular-season opener against the Senators on Oct. 9, a game in which the veteran backstop will almost certainly get the starting nod if cleared to play. The Russian's injury woes during training camp are certainly worth monitoring heading into the 2025-26 campaign, as it could see him play less than 60 games for just the second time in the last five years. Still, Vasilevskiy remains one of the top handful of goalies in the NHL and should offer top-end fantasy value.
