2025 Fantasy Outlook
After spending the 2024-25 season with the Capitals, in which Mangiapane had 14 goals and 14 assists in 81 games, the former longtime Flame is crossing to the other side of the Battle of Alberta and joining the Oilers on a two-year deal. The eight-year veteran has one 30-goal season under his belt, coming back in the 2021-22 season when he scored 35 goals and shot 18.9 percent. Last year was the 29-year-old’s first season under 40 points since 2020-21, but we’ve seen what Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can do for revitalizing wingers' careers, so this could be a good landing spot for Mangiapane. At the very least, he’s likely to eclipse the 14 goals he had last year. Mangiapane seems to be a good bet for a bounce-back season for fantasy managers, with the possibility for him to pop if put in the right situations. Read Past Outlooks

Tallies against old teammates
Mangiapane scored a goal in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Flames.
ANALYSIS
Mangiapane's first goal as an Oiler came against the team he spent his first seven NHL campaigns with. He kept the puck in the zone while getting knocked down and then took a pass from Connor McDavid before sniping a shot in from the left circle at 16:11 of the first period. Prior to his 28-point regular season with the Capitals in 2024-25, Mangiapane had reached the 40-point mark in three straight years. He's starting this year in a top-six role with power-play time, so he's in a good position to put together a bounce-back campaign. He's not a must-have winger, but fantasy managers should keep an eye on how he performs early on.

Mangiapane will finish out the final season of a three-year, $17.4 million deal he signed with the Flames as a member of the Capitals after he was sent to Washington in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. The 28-year-old winger has reached the 40-point threshold in each of his last three seasons but has only managed 20-plus goals once in his seven-year NHL career. Even with the trade to the Caps, the Toronto native is unlikely to drastically exceed any of those marks this year and figures to be a safe 40-50 point producer this year with minimal impact with the man advantage.

Likely to test free agency
Mangiapane will probably test the open market as an unrestricted free agent in July, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mangiapane collected 14 goals, 28 points, 95 shots on net and 74 hits across 81 regular-season appearances with Washington in 2024-25. He had a $5.8 million cap hit for three years during his previous contract, but he will likely have to settle for earning less to land a middle-six role on a different team.
