2025 Fantasy Outlook
There are few players in the NHL that have more physicality than Xhekaj, but that grit alone may not be enough to keep him in the lineup regularly in 2025-26. The Canadiens have an overflow of left-shot defensemen, which could make it tough for Xhekaj to maintain an everyday spot in the lineup. He doesn't have momentum on his side either -- he had just six points in 70 regular-season games in 2024-25, though he added 180 hits, 63 blocked shots and 118 PIM. Xhekaj can help fantasy managers who need the extra sandpaper, but he won't need to be rostered in standard formats. Read Past Outlooks
Nets first goal this season
Xhekaj scored a goal and had three hits during Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Xhekaj found the back of the net for Montreal's second goal of the opening period. His twine finder Saturday was his first of the season, to go with 60 hits and 22 blocks through 28 games. The 24-year-old blueliner was due for a point, as he hadn't found the scoresheet since Montreal's second game of the season. He was a healthy scratch twice in the past few weeks, making his goal a reason to keep him in the lineup moving forward. Outside of deep leagues that value banger stats, Xhekaj remains off the fantasy radar.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
In 44 NHL outings last season, Xhekaj registered three goals, seven assists and 61 shots while averaging 15:56 of ice time. While his offensive contributions were somewhat limited, the 23-year-old blueliner certainly threw his body around, racking up 125 hits. Assuming he is fully recovered from a shoulder injury that impacted his 2023-24 campaign, the Ontario native could be in line to log a full season in the NHL, rather than having to split his time in the minors. At best, Xhekaj could push for the 25-point mark and will really only add enough value in formats that heavily utilize the hits category.
