2014
Halverson is expected to be the starter for AHL Hartford this year, with Alexandar Georgiev graduating to the NHL as Henrik Lundqvist's backup. The 22-year-old Michigan native has faced six shots at the NHL level, allowing one goal. Halverson hasn't found much success while splitting time between the AHL and ECHL over the past two seasons, so he's in need of a lot more seasoning if he's ever going to make a significant impact at the game's highest level.
Selected 59th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Halverson posted a 2.63 GAA in just his second season season of junior hockey with Sault Ste. Marie of the OHL. While Henrik Lundqvist still represents the Rangers' long-term option between the pipes, the organization did trade Cam Talbot to Edmonton this summer, creating a much more optimistic view for Halverson and the other promising netminders in the team’s pipeline. Either way, standard re-draft owners should expect to see the 19-year-old Halverson hang around juniors for at least another season.
Despite inking franchise keeper Henrik Lundqvist and finding a gem in backup tender Cam Talbot, the organization continues to stock goalies, as exemplified in their second-round choice in the 2014 draft. Halverson, who has enjoyed moderate success in junior play, most recently posted a 12-6-1 record with .904 save-percentages with Sault Ste. Marie of the OHL. For now, the 18-year-old Halverson has plenty of time to develop and provides organizational depth between the pipes, but it's not out of the question that he's been earmarked as Lundqvist's successor years down the road - its simply too early to tell.

Set for team debut soon
GTampa Bay Lightning  Minors
February 4, 2025
Halverson is expected to make his Lightning debut against Detroit or Montreal on Saturday or Sunday, respectively, per Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times.
ANALYSIS
Halverson has just one game of NHL experience from back in 2017-18 when he was with the Rangers. In that outing, he secured the victory despite giving up one goal on six shots in relief. Until Jonas Johansson is cleared to return from a lower-body injury, Halverson figures to serve as the No. 2 option behind Andrei Vasilevskiy.
