2025 Fantasy Outlook
Makar set new personal bests in goals (30) and points (92) over 80 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, marking the first time a defenseman reached the 30-goal mark since Mike Green (31) in 2008-09 with Washington. Boosted by his power-play role, Makar's 12 tallies with the man advantage paced all NHL defensemen, as no other player had more than five. While the offensively-gifted blueliner converted at a career-high 12.2 percent clip on 246 shots on goal last season, it shouldn't be cause for concern in terms of potential regression given his world-class edgework and ability to find shooting lanes from the point. While fellow Norris Trophy finalists Quinn Hughes and Zach Werenski will be premier fantasy selections in upcoming drafts, it's difficult to make an argument against Makar being the first blueliner off the board in 2025-26. Makar has two seasons left before he is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, so the best of the right-shot rearguard may have yet to be seen, not to mention the fact that he's only 26. Adds three points in win
Makar scored a power-play goal, earned two assists and fired seven shots on net in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Wild.
ANALYSIS
Makar had a hand in all three goals scored by Colorado across the first two periods of Sunday's contest. He assisted the tallies scored by Martin Necas and Nathan MacKinnon before scoring himself on a power play late in the second. With the three-point effort, Makar is up to 11 goals, 32 assists, 105 shots on net and 61 blocks through 35 appearances this season. Sunday's performance came after just his fourth scoreless outing since the start of November. Makar remains the undisputed top blueliner to have in fantasy and is currently on pace for the century mark in points, which would be a new career high if he can continue his current level of production.

Makar accounted for 21 goals and a career-high 90 points across 77 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign. He led all blueliners with 39 power-play points and tied for first with four shorthanded points. He was also credited with a personal-best 148 blocked shots. Since 2020-21, he ranks third among defensemen with 751 shots on goal. The 25-year-old phenom has operated at a point-per-game pace for four straight seasons. He has firmly established himself as one of the best offensive defenders in the league, making him a valuable fantasy target. Makar should be the first defenseman chosen on draft day because of his ability to produce points akin to an elite forward.
