Rosen signed a one-year, two-way contract with Washington on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Rosen spent all of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors with AHL Colorado, appearing in 62 regular-season contests in which he notched 10 goals and 24 helpers before adding four points in nine playoff appearances. Given his inability to get into an NHL game last year, Rosen figures to once again play the bulk of his games in the minors.

Due to injuries on St. Louis' blue line, Rosen ended up playing a much larger role than expected in 2022-23. To his credit, he held his own with 16 points, 51 blocked shots and a plus-19 rating over a career-high 49 games, 11 more than he'd played in the previous five years combined. Rosen's got the skill set to handle a top-four role as an offensive-minded defenseman, and he did well defensively too despite the Blues' overall struggles in 2022-23. He should be considered ahead of Robert Bortuzzo for playing time in 2023-24, though Rosen may still find himself occasionally in the press box.
Rosen faces an uphill battle for playing time in 2020-21 after only producing three helpers in 12 contests split between the Avalanche and Maple Leafs last year. A left-shot blueliner, Rosen could challenge Mikko Lehtonen for a job on the third pairing, but the former hasn't shown much yet at the NHL level. At 26 years old, Rosen isn't likely to have a huge breakout this year, and fantasy managers can find much more stable options to fill out their rosters in virtually all formats.
Rosen was the number one defender for AHL Toronto last season and was largely considered the best blueliner in the league. He's solid in all zones, plays both special teams and skates well. Rosen's vision and passing are top notch, and he could end up tipping the balance of the Tyson Barrie/Nazem Kadri trade toward the Avs in a couple years. The 25-year-old might spend another season in the AHL, but he could also make the big club's Opening Night roster out of camp. Rosen needs time to show what he can do in the NHL, but he has the skills to be a solid fantasy contributor in the future.
Rosen spent most of the 2017-18 campaign with the Calder Cup-winning Toronto Marlies where he put up a pedestrian 22 points in 62 games. But his game took a leap in the postseason and his 11 points (16 games) led all Marlies' blueliners. Rosen's Calder Cup performance has put him square in line for a possible NHL gig in 2018-19. If only he was a right shot. Rosen had a four-game cameo with the Leafs last season and managed one assist. He's among a handful of lefties duking it out for a gig on the bottom pairing -- there's little fantasy value in that.

Regular role on tap?
DSt. Louis Blues  Minors
December 27, 2022
With Torey Krug dealing with a long-term lower-body injury, Rosen is expected to enter the lineup Tuesday versus Toronto, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rosen has sat as a healthy scratch for seven straight contests, but with Krug expected to miss at least six weeks with a lower-body injury, Rosen could be in line for a sharp increase in playing time for the foreseeable future. Rosen's picked up six points through 17 games this season.
