2025 Fantasy Outlook
A career journeyman, Pickard has found his most success in Edmonton. He crossed the 20-win mark for the first time in 2024-25, going 22-10-1 with a 2.71 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 36 regular-season games. He's played well enough in the last couple of years to frequently call Stuart Skinner's role as the starter into question. The Oilers don't have to make a move in goal yet, but both Pickard and Skinner are entering their contract year in 2025-26. That should heighten competition in the crease, but Pickard's more manageable $1 million cap hit would make him easier to trade away, especially if he builds his trade value. He isn't a proven No. 1, but Pickard does fine as a tandem goalie. Read Past Outlooks
Lands on waivers
Pickard was placed on waivers Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Pickard has a 5-6-2 record with a 3.68 GAA and an .871 save percentage in 16 appearances for the Oilers this season. Assuming he clears waivers, the 33-year-old netminder will probably head to AHL Bakersfield. With Pickard poised to lose his roster spot, Edmonton will go with Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram as its two goaltenders.

Pickard will back up starter Stuart Skinner for this season and next after inking a two-year deal in June. He took over the No. 2 role last season and finished 12-7-1 with a 2.45 GAA and .909 save percentage in 23 games. That was the most games he'd played in a season since his 15-31-2 effort in 50 games with the Avs in 2016-17. Pickard is a stable choice in the Oilers net - after all, he was good enough to start two games in the second round of last year's playoffs. Expect him to get 25 starts, give or take, and deliver above-average ratios behind an elite team. That means he'll be an effective streamer in daily formats. If Skinner finds some consistency, the Oilers duo could be an elite team play, as well.
