Re-ups with club
York agreed to terms on a five-year, $25.75 million contract with Philadelphia on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
York will see a nice boost from his previous $1.6 million AAV deal. A restricted free agent this offseason, the 24-year-old blueliner will now be tied to the Flyers through his prime years and becomes the second-highest paid defenseman for the club behind Travis Sanheim. Last season, York was dropped from the power-play units, which was no doubt a factor in his failing to reach the 20-point threshold for the first time in three years -- though playing in just 66 regular-season games was also part of the problem. With a new coaching staff in town, perhaps York can return to being a 30-point producer.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
York has steadily risen in importance for the Flyers, recording 10 points in 30 contests in 2021-22, 20 points in 54 appearances in 2022-23 and 30 points (10 goals) across 82 outings last season. He also finished 2023-24 with 44 PIM, 174 blocked shots and 76 hits while averaging 22:37 of ice time. Still just 23 years old, York is a steal at his current $1.6 million cap hit, though he'll be due for a massive raise when he becomes a restricted free agent in the summer of 2025. In the meantime, York is likely to continue to grow a bit more offensively, especially with him projected to serve on the Flyers' top power-play unit in the upcoming campaign. It wouldn't be surprising to see him collect 35-40 points this season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Benched again Thursday
York didn't play a shift in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Canadiens, and the disciplinary move may have been the result of a confrontation between the defenseman and former coach John Tortorella, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
York played just 3:50 in Tuesday's loss to the Maple Leafs, and while Tortorella was let go by the Flyers on Thursday morning, interim coach Brad Shaw saw fit to keep the blueliner glued to the bench Thursday even though Philadelphia didn't have another defenseman available to dress. Per Kurz, Shaw indicated after Thursday's win that York will return to the lineup Saturday against the Sabres.
