2025 Fantasy Outlook
McAvoy was in the midst of another good season before a shoulder injury ended his season in February. In the 50 games he did play, the 27-year-old posted seven goals and 16 assists, a pace of 38 points over a full 82-game slate. The Bruins' struggles played a role in his dip in production from the 50-point seasons he’s had in recent years. He still plays heavy minutes and quarterbacks Boston’s top power play, which accounted for a total average of 23:40 of ice time in 2024-25. He also was on pace to breeze past 100 in both blocked shots and hits prior to the injury. Assuming the 27-year-old enters next season healthy, he will instantly be back to being one of the top all-around defensemen in the league, though it would help his production if the Bruins' decline was just a one-year issue. Pockets pair of assists
McAvoy notched two assists, including one on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Islanders.
ANALYSIS
This was McAvoy's second two-assist effort over the last four games. The veteran defenseman is up to eight helpers across 12 outings this season, and he's added 18 shots on net, 19 hits, 19 blocked shots, 22 PIM and a minus-4 rating. McAvoy provides strong category coverage, and he's also producing offense at a rate in line with the best years of his career early in 2025-26.

While McAvoy was able to set a new personal best with 12 goals this past season, he also failed to reach the 50-point mark for the first time in three years. Part of the decline in production is no doubt from the 26-year-old blueliner's decreased power-play points, as he managed just 13 this past season despite logging a career-high 3:14 of ice time per game with the man advantage. Still, the minutes-eating defenseman should continue to log over 24 minutes of ice time per night and figures to be a lock for the 30-point threshold at a minimum, a mark he has missed just once in his seven-year NHL career, but he should be in contention to get back over 50.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hoping to play Thursday
McAvoy, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, is targeting a return to action versus the Jets on Thursday, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
McAvoy has been sidelined for the Bruins' last seven games due to his upper-body issue. Prior to getting hurt, the 27-year-old defenseman was stuck in a 19-game goal drought, though he did chip in 10 helpers over that stretch to go with 33 shots, 41 hits and 37 blocks. If McAvoy does return Thursday, it will likely see Parker Wotherspoon or Jordan Oesterle dropped from the lineup.
