Cole Sillinger

Cole Sillinger

22-Year-Old CenterC
Columbus Blue Jackets
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The goal-scoring capabilities of Sillinger have yet to completely translate to the NHL. After an 11-goal campaign that also saw him dish out 22 assists, the 22-year-old now has just 43 goals in 286 career games. The most concerning part is his shooting percentage last year was just 8.5 percent, not far off from his career average of 8.2 percent. Approaching 300 NHL games now, that’s starting to become too large of a sample size to just attribute to bad luck. It’s a pivotal point in the young center’s career to prove he has some finishing ability at the NHL level. Sillinger sees time on the power play and flashes some playmaking ability that will allow him to pick up assists, but currently in a third-line role, he will need to discover his goal-scoring touch to truly break out into the player he was drafted to be. ANALYSIS
Sillinger's tally extended his point streak to four games (two goals, three assists). The 22-year-old center is still dealing with limited ice time -- he's averaged just 12:22 per game over his last six outings. For the year, he has five goals, 20 points, 76 shots on net, 47 hits, 18 PIM and a plus-3 rating in 39 appearances, mainly in a middle-six capacity.

2022
Selected with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Sillinger was able to jump straight from the USHL to the NHL in 2021-22, but he hasn't become an impact player at the top level. He has 32 goals and 74 points through 220 career NHL contests, including 13 goals and 32 points across 77 games in 2023-24. While he did set a career high in points last season, he was averaging 16:07 of ice time, up from 13:32 over his first two campaigns, so it's somewhat disappointing that he didn't do more with those increased responsibilities. Still, he's just 21 years old, so there's a lot of time left for him to come into his own. Pencil him in for about 40 points, and take him earlier than others in that production range due to his upside.
The former No. 12 overall pick in 2021, Sillinger had a tough year in 2022-23. He had just three goals and 11 points in 64 games. The lowlight of his season was a 45-game goalless drought from mid-November to mid-March. That said, expectations were probably a bit out of hand after Sillinger's 16-goal, 31-point rookie campaign as an 18-year-old. Sillinger will play this entire season at age 20, so there's no need to panic, but it's far from a guarantee he will start the 2023-24 campaign with the big club. Either way, Sillinger has no fantasy value in redraft formats.
Selected No. 12 overall by Columbus in the 2021 Draft, Sillinger immediately stepped into the lineup as an 18-year-old and performed exceptionally well given his youth. He finished the year with 16 goals and 31 points in 79 games. Sillinger's minus-22 rating was horrific and the Jackets were careful about not overloading him with too much playing time, but both of those things will correct themselves over time. It will be interesting to see how much Columbus is willing to increase Sillinger's role this coming season. He's unquestionably one of the organization's most valuable long-term assets, although he's still a better keeper/dynasty prospect than redraft pick.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might re-sign soon
CColumbus Blue Jackets
August 19, 2024
Sillinger, who is a restricted free agent, might sign a new contract in a day or two, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Sillinger is coming off his entry-level contract. Portzline was previously told that Sillinger's new deal would be a two-year agreement, but it's possible that the terms might have changed. The 21-year-old forward had 13 goals, 32 points, 46 PIM, 74 blocked shots and 119 hits in 77 contests with the Blue Jackets last season. The 21-year-old has untapped offensive upside and might begin the upcoming campaign in a middle-six role.
