Dewar had three assists in 31 appearances with Toronto in 2024-25 before getting dealt to Pittsburgh in March. He concluded the regular season with four goals, three helpers, 27 shots on net, 19 blocked shots and 49 hits across 17 outings. He didn’t receive a qualifying offer from the Penguins but signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the team instead of testing the open market. Most of his minutes came on the fourth line with both teams, but he was productive alongside some of Pittsburgh’s skill players. Even still, he will probably be a bottom-six skater in 2025-26 if he plays regularly. It's always a bit of roll of the dice if you're trying to pad that bruise category -- it's tempting to stick in a pylon. But a guy like Dewar, who seems to have decent hands, could deliver you a boost. That is, if you can plug him and let him ride. Trying to market time activations on guys like this is difficult at best.

Despite setting a new career-high with 11 goals last season, Dewar once again failed to reach the 20-point threshold for the second straight year. The 25-year-old Manitoba native figures to be firmly cemented in a bottom-six role with the Maple Leafs and is unlikely to push for much in the way of power-play ice time. As such, fantasy managers probably shouldn't be expecting a lot of production out of the natural center. Still, if there are injuries further up the depth chart, Dewar's hard-working nature could earn him a look with some of Toronto's stars, albeit temporarily, assuming he has fully recovered from offseason shoulder surgery.
