2025 Fantasy Outlook
A pair of knee injuries resulted in a shorter 2024-25 campaign than expected for Zary, with the latter of those injuries ending his season prematurely. He put up 27 points in 54 games when healthy, taking a small step back from his 34-point effort over 63 games the year before. Zary is still a talented young forward, but the Flames' struggles on offense last year left little room for depth players to make a sizable fantasy impact. Entering his age-24 season, it's expected he'll be a top-six option when healthy, as well as a regular presence on the power play, where he earned nine of his 27 points last season. Zary could be a sleeper option for fantasy managers this fall, though any improvements the Flames make to their roster could result in it being tougher for him to claim sufficient playing time. Bats in power-play goal
Zary scored a power-play goal on three shots in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Oilers.
ANALYSIS
Zary was able to knock down a rebound of an Adam Klapka shot, and it was upheld as a legal goal. The 24-year-old Zary has potted 27 goals over his first 117 career games, but now entering his third NHL campaign, he could be due for a breakout year. He was on the third line Wednesday and saw just 14:22 of ice time in the season opener, but a strong performance early in the year will likely lead to more ice time for the forward, especially given the lack of established high-end scorers in the Flames' lineup.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Zary accounted for 14 goals and 34 points in 63 appearances last season. He made an immediate impact after making his NHL debut in November, providing seven tallies and 10 assists in his first 23 contests. The 22-year-old forward was a good fit alongside Nazem Kadri, who led the team with 75 points in 82 games in 2023-24. Zary will likely claim a middle-six roster spot with the Flames out of training camp but could have his role altered. He might play more down the middle during the upcoming campaign, which could present an opportunity to skate between Jonathan Huberdeau and Anthony Mantha. Alternatively, Zary may take Kadri's place alongside Martin Pospisil and Andrei Kuzmenko. In any event, Zary should improve his numbers during his sophomore season, topping 40 points and exceeding 100 shots on net.

Nearing three-year contract
Zary and the Flames are close to inking a three-year deal worth a little less than $3.8 million annually, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Zary recorded 13 goals and 27 points in 54 appearances with the Flames in 2024-25 after finishing the 2023-24 regular season with 34 points in 63 outings. The 23-year-old is a restricted free agent after completing his entry-level contract. He's got top-six potential, so this might end up being a good contract for the Flames.
