2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sheary isn't guaranteed an NHL job heading into 2025-26, but he'll attempt to win one while on a tryout agreement with the Rangers. It's a reunion for the winger and head coach Mike Sullivan, who had Sheary in a prominent role during the Penguins' glory years in the last decade. A lot has changed since then, but Sheary still displayed a scoring touch with 61 points (20 goals, 41 assists) in 59 regular-season games with AHL Syracuse in 2024-25. If he makes the Rangers, it'll be as a bottom-six option, but ice time should be easier to find than it was in Tampa Bay last year, when he logged just five NHL outings. Read Past Outlooks

Adds helper in win
Sheary notched a power-play assist in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Penguins.
ANALYSIS
Sheary picked up his first point in three games with the Rangers after signing just before the start of the year. The 33-year-old has added three shots on net and four blocked shots. Sheary's in a middle-six role for now, and if he can find consistent offense, he could be a decent depth forward in fantasy.

Sheary's offense fell off a cliff in his first year with the Lightning, as the veteran winger was limited to 15 points in 57 regular-season games. He missed a month early in the campaign with an upper-body injury, but by the time the playoff push rolled around, he'd fallen out of favor -- Sheary was scratched for seven of the last 13 contests. Things probably can't get much worse for the 32-year-old winger, but there's no guarantee it will get much better either. Jake Guentzel replacing Steven Stamkos does nothing to change Sheary's likely bottom-six deployment, and he's not expected to see much power-play time either. Combined with a lack of non-scoring numbers, there's little reason to draft Sheary in fantasy.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Poised to sign with Rangers
Sheary, who is with the team on a PTO, was working with the No. 2 power-play unit Monday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports, indicating he's likely to make the team.
ANALYSIS
If the Rangers weren't planning to sign Sheary to a full contract, it wouldn't make sense for him to get work with the No. 2 power-play unit. The 10-year NHL veteran has logged 593 regular-season games over his career in which he notched 124 goals and 143 assists, not to mention being a two-time Stanley Cup champion.
