2025 Fantasy Outlook
Mercer’s ironman streak continued in 2024-25, playing in all 82 games yet again. The 23-year-old came up just short of his third consecutive 20-goal season despite averaging a career-high 17:53 of ice time, finishing with 19 goals and 17 assists. He had a career-high six goals on the power play as well. Despite that, it’s hard not to be disappointed following his impressive 27-goal, 56-point effort in 2022-23. He had an especially rough postseason in 2024-25, scoring two goals but taking some brutal penalties and finishing a minus-6. When the Devils are fully healthy, he doesn’t play on New Jersey’s top power play, and he is either forced into a third-line center role or used in the top-six as a winger. The availability hasn't been a question, so the focus is on seeing if he can put it all together on the ice and finally capitalize on his 30-goal potential. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Mercer enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign with eight goals and 13 points over his first 12 regular-season contests. However, the winger has cooled off considerably since then and has been limited to only 16 points (five goals, 11 helpers) in his subsequent 37 appearances. Mercer will continue to have opportunities to produce, especially given that he's posted three points over his last four games, but the overall drop in production since that hot start has limited his appeal in most formats.

Mercer was only able to avoid the sophomore slump for so long, instead enduring a drop in productivity in year three. This past year, the 22-year-old was able to reach the 20-goal threshold but recorded the lowest point total (33) of his three-year NHL career. Despite the rough 2023-24 campaign, Mercer should offer plenty of fantasy upside, due in part to the fact that he has yet to miss a regular-season game, logging all 246 games in the NHL. With a bounce-back year, Mercer should be capable of pushing for the 30-goal and 60-point thresholds - especially if he can manage more power-play ice time after averaging just 1:27 per contest with the man advantage last year.
