2025 Fantasy Outlook
Mateychuk turned pro in 2024-25, supplying nine goals and 25 points across 27 regular-season outings with AHL Cleveland as well as four goals, 13 points, 20 PIM, 44 shots, 26 hits and 63 blocks in 45 appearances with the Blue Jackets. Taken with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, the 21-year-old has tremendous offensive upside, so he's worth keeping a close eye on during training camp. If he secures a regular role on Columbus' power play for the 2025-26 campaign, then a 30-plus point showing is obtainable. However, Zach Werenski is a lock to be the blueliner on the top power-play unit, and defenseman Ivan Provorov will likely find himself as part of the second group, so Mateychuk will have to fight to earn and maintain a role on special teams. Set to be evaluated Monday
Head coach Dean Evason said after Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth that Mateychuk (upper body) will be evaluated Monday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
ANALYSIS
Mateychuk played just one shift during Sunday's victory before exiting the game. If the left-shot blueliner is sidelined for Tuesday's home matchup against the Flames, Jake Christiansen will draw back into the lineup.
