2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pettersson is coming off a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, in which he notched only 15 goals and 45 points across 64 appearances. He struggled with consistency issues before missing the final 12 games of the season due to an oblique injury. After being criticized by coaches and management for his lack of preparation, he should hit the ground running at training camp. He possesses plenty of bounce-back potential, but it could be challenging for him to return to being a point-per-game threat in 2025-26 because of Vancouver’s scoring problems. Still, Pettersson has multi-category upside if he tops 200 shots and nears 100 hits while recording a block per contest. Read Past Outlooks

Pettersson scored a goal in a 2-1 loss to Ottawa on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
He has a goal in each of his last two games (seven shots) and five goals (one assist) in his last nine contests. Pettersson is in the second season of his eight-year contract with an average annual value of $11.6 million, and he's having trouble living up to the lofty expectations that naturally come with that kind of deal. He has 13 goals, 15 assists and 79 shots in 38 games this season. The Orcas are awful right now -- they're winless in eight games -- and Pettersson is frustrated. We can't help but think Vancouver would trade him, but that deal would be almost impossible to move without him showing he's more 2022-23 than 2024-25.

Pettersson couldn't quite match the career highs of 39 goals and 102 points he set in 2022-23, but with 34 markers and 89 points through 82 regular-season outings last year, his latest performance left fantasy managers with plenty to be happy about. Looking ahead, Pettersson is gearing up for the first campaign of his eight-year, $92.8 million deal, and given that he's just 25, there's every reason to believe he'll be one of Vancouver's top offensive threats throughout that deal. Finishing with over a point per game seems like a reasonable expectation for the 2024-25 campaign, but reaching the 40-goal milestone for the first time in his career would likely require him to be a bit more selfish with the puck. While he had a strong 16.4 shooting percentage last season and his career average is similar at 16.6, Pettersson logged 207 shots last season, putting him in a four-way tie for 68th in the league. Perhaps he'll eventually start to fire the puck more, but his floor appears to be a 30-goal, 80-point center.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May practice Wednesday
Pettersson, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, could return to practice Wedneday, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Adam Foote was hopeful that Pettersson would be on the ice Wednesday, which would seem to indicate the team got some good news regarding his upper-body problem. The 27-year-old center has scored just once in his last six outings while generating only 15 shots. Given his roles on the top line and No. 1 power-play unit, fantasy managers are no doubt hoping for more productivity once he receives the all-clear.
