Fantilli gave the Blue Jackets valuable secondary scoring during his sophomore season, collecting 31 goals and 54 points over 82 games. He recovered from a sluggish start by generating 24 tallies and 15 assists in 44 outings to end the regular season. Fantilli got a boost when Sean Monahan was out with a wrist injury and made the most of his top-line promotion. However, Fantilli continued to rack up points after sliding back into a second-line role down the stretch. He also added 191 shots on goal and 113 hits. The goal snapped a 17-game goal drought; Fantilli's last snipe came against the Ducks on Dec. 16. It was also his first multi-point game since Dec. 4. Fantilli hasn't taken the next offensive step forward with his game, and he's likely to deliver a similar total as last season (54). His goal scoring is down, though -- he delivered 31 snipes last season, but he's on pace for ten fewer this year. Fantilli is an aggressive, talented top-line pivot who is a gifted playmaker, and he's showing more of that gift this season. Fantilli had a strong rookie campaign with 12 goals and 27 points in 49 outings, but a leg injury prevented him from playing past Jan. 28. While it was a rough end to his campaign, it doesn't change the fact that the 19-year-old (20 on Oct. 12) has tremendous upside. Having already given Columbus a taste of what he can do, the rebuilding Blue Jackets will likely use him in a top-six capacity and on the first power-play unit. If that proves to be the case, then it wouldn't be surprising to see Fantilli jump to 50-60 points in his sophomore season, though of course there's some risk there given that his level of NHL experience is still relatively low.
