2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gustavsson had a rough 2023-24 campaign, but he completely turned things around in 2024-25 while taking on a starter's workload for a full season. He went 31-19-6 with a 2.56 GAA and a .914 save percentage over 58 regular-season appearances and maintained similar numbers in a six-game first-round loss to the Golden Knights in the playoffs. Gustavsson has also learned from a great mentor in Marc-Andre Fleury, whose retirement means Gustavsson should have more job security in 2025-26. The Wild are likely to roll with Jesper Wallstedt as the backup, though if he finds his way at the NHL level quickly, Gustavsson may see a smaller workload. Gustavsson has had high-end numbers in two of the last three years, and at 27 years old, he's firmly in his prime. Read Past Outlooks

Set to start Thursday
Gustavsson is expected to start on the road against St. Louis on Thursday, per Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
ANALYSIS
Gustavsson had a 31-19-6 record, 2.56 GAA and .914 save percentage in 58 regular-season appearances with the Wild last year. He's got a good chance of getting a similar workload in 2025-26, and it's plausible that he'll hit the 30-win mark again thanks in no small part to the strength of the team in front of him.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
Gustavsson's fall in 2023-24 was epic. His GAA went up almost a full goal (2.10 to 3.06) and his save percentage went from elite to below average (.931 to .899). Together, he and Marc Andre Fleury were the second-worst pairing in the league in GSAx (goals saved above expected) with a -16.72. Gustavsson's own GSAx nosedived more than 28 goals. He did rebound a bit in the second half, going 7-5-2 with a .906 save percentage after the All-Star Game. Can he rebound? Probably, but it's hard to know how far. That's why the 26-year-old netminder has been the subject of summer trade rumors because elite prospect Jesper Wallstedt is waiting in the wings. Gustavsson's best option may be in another city. He's a watch-and-wait option for your draft unless risk is your middle name.
