Selected with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Luchanko combines blazing speed with superb playmaking abilities. He's solid without the puck too, which gives him the potential to develop into a great two-way center. What should be expected from him in 2024-25, though? Initially, it seemed like it would be a campaign focused on him developing in the OHL, but Luchanko may have forced the Flyers to hasten his timetable after a strong training camp. He's still not guaranteed to stick with Philadelphia for the full campaign -- until he plays in his 10th NHL contest of the season, this won't count as the first year of his entry-level contract -- so the Flyers might return him to the junior level before he hits that mark if he isn't quite ready. Luchanko signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flyers on Saturday.

Luchanko had 20 goals and 74 points in 68 contests with OHL Guelph in 2023-24. Philadelphia selected him with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. Luchanko boasts tremendous speed and plays a two-way game that gives him the potential to become a great middle-six forward. However, the 17-year-old is expected to need more time to develop before he gets his first taste of NHL action.

Luchanko appears to have made the Flyers' Opening Night roster, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Friday.

Luchanko entered Philadelphia's training camp as someone to keep an eye on, but he was far from a safe bet to make this year's squad after being taken with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. Luchanko recorded 20 goals and 74 points in 68 regular-season contests with OHL Guelph in 2023-24. The 18-year-old might be making the Flyers' roster on a trial basis -- as long as he plays in less than 10 NHL games this season, this won't count as the first campaign of his entry-level contract, so the Flyers have the option to use him early in 2024-25 and still return him to the OHL should they decide he's not quite ready for the top level.
