2025 Fantasy Outlook
After years of dangling in trade rumors as a good goalie behind a bad team, Vejmelka upped his game in a contract season and earned an extension with the Mammoth. His five-year deal kicks in for 2025-26 after he posted a 26-22-8 record with a 2.58 GAA and a .904 save percentage in a career-high 58 games. The 29-year-old is among the good goalies in the NHL, especially with that kind of workload, but his numbers could still improve as the team in front of him continues to trend up. Vejmelka should be good for 50 games at a minimum, and if Utah takes the next step forward, he'll be a strong mid-to-late-round pick in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks

Facing Avalanche
Vejmelka was the first goaltender off the ice at morning skate, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports, and will get the Opening Night assignment in Colorado on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Vejmelka took a huge step forward last season, posting a 26-22-8 mark with a 2.58 GAA and a .904 save percentage, far superior to 2023-24 when he went 13-19-2 with a 3.35 GAA and an .895 save percentage. The Avalanche won their first game of the season Tuesday, finding the back of the net on four occasions in a road win over Los Angeles.

2022
Vejmelka looked like Utah's goalie of the future with a breakout 2022-23 showing, but he crashed to Earth in 2023-24, and his game seemed porous. There was even talk of waiving him. Vejmelka is a solid enough netminder, but with Connor Ingram's emergence, he's going to settle for the No. 2 role in Utah. The arrival of Mikhail Sergachev and John Marino on the team's blue line will help both goalies tremendously, so expect far better numbers for Vejmelka than his 3.35 GAA and .895 save percentage from last year. He could offer some depth fantasy value if he can force a platoon situation.

Working in starter's crease
Vejmelka took the starter's crease for Thursday's game-day skate, Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Vejmelka will head into the 2025-26 campaign as the presumptive No. 1 for the Mammoth while Vitek Vanecek takes the backup role. Still, the 29-year-old Vejmelka is far from guaranteed his spot and will have to stay on top of his game to avoid losing starts to Vanecek. Last season, Vejmelka went 26-22-8 with a career-best 2.58 GAA and one shutout in 58 regular-season appearances.
