The 33-year-old also played six games with Nashville, picking up one assist in those outings. Having played just 29 games in the NHL over the last five years, he’s not much more than an organizational depth defenseman at this point in his career. Gravel figures to be the biggest beneficiary of the injury to Andrej Sekera (Achilles) -- who is slated to be sidelined until at least January. If the towering defenseman can hold off challenges from the Oilers' young prospects, he could finally break into a more consistent role in the lineup with his new club. Still, it will take a strong start to his 2018-19 season for the defensively-minded 26-year-old to remain in the lineup once Sekera returns. Considering Gravel signed a two-way deal, he could also find himself shipped down to the minors periodically throughout the season.
