2025 Fantasy Outlook
Labanc will get a chance to prove he's still got something left to give at the NHL level after signing a professional tryout agreement with the Hurricanes ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Last year, the 29-year-old winger managed a mere 34 NHL outings for the Blue Jackets in which he garnered two goals and 10 helpers. Across a full 82-game campaign, the Brooklyn native would be challenging for the 30-point threshold, which would be decent production from a middle-six role in Carolina. He'll need a solid camp showing to earn at least a two-way deal before Opening Night. Read Past Outlooks

Signs with KHL club
Labanc penned a one-year contract with the Shanghai Dragons (KHL) on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Labanc was with the Hurricanes during training camp but was unable to secure a full NHL deal. Instead, the 29-year-old winger will head to China to link up with the country's KHL squad. At this point, it's hard to imagine Labanc getting another run in the NHL, though he could earn his way back with an impressive showing in the KHL this year.

Labanc had a 56-point season back in 2018-19, but his performance in the four years since suggests that was a fluke. He managed just 15 goals and 33 points in 72 games last season. His three points with the man advantage were particularly disappointing considering the lack of offensive firepower on the San Jose roster. Labanc, who has one year left on his contract before unrestricted free agency, will almost certainly be dealt at some point this coming season if, as expected, the Sharks are nowhere near playoff contention and he hasn't signed an extension.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Performing well in training camp
Labanc has made a good impression during the Hurricanes' training camp, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Carolina has a deep forward group, so even if Labanc makes the team, he might be hard-pressed to earn a consistent role in 2025-26. The right-shot winger signed a professional tryout agreement earlier this month. Labanc registered two goals, 10 helpers and a plus-1 rating while averaging 10:30 of ice time over 34 appearances with the Blue Jackets in 2024-25.
