2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sherwood struggled to find his footing in the NHL across his first six years in the league, but he found a home, at least temporarily, in Vancouver by signing a two-year, $3 million contract with the team in the 2024 free-agency class. Besides Quinn Hughes, Sherwood was arguably Vancouver’s most impactful player last season -- he set an NHL record for the most hits (462) in a season and broke out offensively with 19 goals and 40 points over 78 games, all career highs. The 30-year-old also had personal bests in shots on goal (141) and shooting percentage (13.5) while earning 14:53 of ice time per game, so he has a strong foundation to build on heading into 2025-26. With a new bench boss in Adam Foote and the fact that it’s the final year of his contract, the hard-hitting winger has plenty of reasons to continue proving his worth. Read Past Outlooks

Lights lamp in season-opening win
Sherwood scored a goal on two shots, levied six hits and added two PIM in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Flames.
ANALYSIS
Sherwood opened the scoring at 14:53 of the first period off a feed from Drew O'Connor. The 30-year-old Sherwood broke out to the tune of 19 goals and 40 points over 78 games in 2024-25, as well as an NHL-record 462 hits -- that's 5.9 hits per game. While fantasy managers can find similar scoring production all over the waiver wire, Sherwood's elite physicality sets him apart in formats that count hits. Don't sleep on him if he continues to chip in a point every other game.

Sherwood logged a career-high 68 regular-season games with Nashville in 2023-24, which resulted in him collecting 10 goals and 27 points. That's not bad production for a player averaging 12:10 of ice time, but his real value is tied to his physical play. The 29-year-old dished out 234 hits last year, and he'll likely end up with a similar total if his new team, the Canucks, deploy him regularly. While nothing is guaranteed, the two-year, $3 million contract Vancouver signed him to suggests that they're looking for him to be a mainstay on at least the fourth line. Just keep in mind that for all his hits, Sherwood isn't a major source of PIM, collecting a moderate 41 last season.

Discussing extension
Sherwood and the Canucks have had preliminary discussions regarding an extension, Satiar Shah of Sportsnet 650 reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Sherwood had a career year in a number of ways in 2024-25, earning 19 goals, 21 assists, 40 points, 141 shots on net and an NHL record 462 hits over 78 games. He is entering the final year of his deal, and it's unclear where his salary would land with the cap rising, but it's fair to assume he'd make far more than the $1.5 million cap hit he pulled on a two-year deal last July. Sherwood's physicality is his best feature, but he's also shown more offense in a middle-six capacity, which makes him a decent fantasy option.
