Marco Rossi

Marco Rossi

23-Year-Old CenterC
Minnesota Wild
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rossi progressed in his sophomore season, improving from 21 goals to 24 and jumping from 40 points to 60 while appearing in all 82 regular-season games in both campaigns. Rossi was productive as a top-six forward during the regular season while clicking offensively with Matt Boldy and Mats Zuccarello. Rossi went through some ups and downs, including a drop to the fourth line during the playoffs, but he still has plenty of upside if he returns to the top six for the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign. He could return to the 60-point plateau, with the potential for more if he maintains a spot alongside a healthy Kirill Kaprizov. Read Past Outlooks

Signs three-year contract

August 22, 2025
Rossi inked a three-year, $15 million contract with Minnesota on Friday, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rossi was a restricted free agent and signed a bridge deal that will take him to within one year of free agency once this contract expires. The 23-year-old had career highs in goals with 24 and assists with 36 across 82 regular-season games with the Wild in 2024-25. He is slated to center the second line in 2025-26, alongside Marcus Johansson and Mats Zuccarello.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2021
Taken by the Wild with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Rossi spent a couple of seasons dominating the AHL before establishing himself as a full-time player at the top level. He did well in his first full NHL campaign, recording 21 goals, 40 points and 47 PIM across 82 contests while averaging a respectable 16:44 of ice time. The soon-to-be 23-year-old spent some of the past season on a line with Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello and will likely log an even greater portion of the 2024-25 campaign in that role. Rossi has significant untapped upside, so when you consider his potential and the opportunities he's likely to get, there's plenty to like here. It'd be a gamble to pencil him in for 60 points this season, but it's also not unreasonable to hope for that kind of jump in production.
Rossi missed the entire 2020-21 season due to the side effects of a positive COVID-19 test, so all that mattered this past year was that he returned to full health. He passed that test with flying colors, playing 63 games for Minnesota's AHL affiliate in Iowa and posting 53 points. Rossi also saw a brief two-game stint with the Wild. Rossi was widely viewed as the most NHL-ready player in the 2020 draft behind No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, so he should have a real chance to crack the Wild lineup this coming season. Rossi, the No. 9 overall pick in that same draft, is a worthy dart throw in deeper fantasy formats.
There was talk of Rossi potentially jumping straight to the NHL after being the No. 9 overall pick by Minnesota in 2020, but the Austrian developed serious side effects after testing positive for COVID-19 and ended up missing the entire 2020-21 season. Rossi had to take things extremely slowly before returning to the ice, but he isn't expected to have any restrictions as the 2021-22 campaign begins. However, it's essentially impossible for the Wild to count on Rossi this year considering all the time he's missed. His time away from the game won't impact his long-term ceiling, but it seems likely to be at least another calendar year before those in redraft leagues should take a flier on Rossi.

Progressing toward new deal
CMinnesota Wild
August 21, 2025
Rossi and the Wild have reportedly made progress on a bridge deal, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Rossi entered the summer as a potential offer sheet candidate, but it seems that he will be sticking around in Minnesota. In 82 regular-season games last year, the 23-year-old center generated 24 goals and 36 assists, including 16 power-play points, while averaging a career-best 18:15 of ice time. Looking ahead to the 2025-26 campaign, the Austrian forward could challenge for the 30-goal mark this year, especially if he continues to see big minutes with the man advantage.
