2025 Fantasy Outlook
Getting fully healthy this offseason after suffering a broken ankle in April will be the first priority for Ferraro, but he’s projected to be ready for training camp. He’s coming off a solid season in which he recorded five goals and 12 assists in 78 games while averaging 21:24 of ice time. The 26-year-old (27 on Sept. 17) also recorded 150 hits and 125 blocked shots last year. He drew a lot of tough assignments as the top defenseman on the rebuilding Sharks, which led to an ugly minus-25 rating. Regardless, the six-year veteran could be a sneaky good sleeper option as the quality of the team improves around him, which could unlock some more offense along with his strong hit and shot blocking numbers. Pots goal in overtime loss
Ferraro scored a goal on two shots and blocked five shots in Saturday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Ducks.
ANALYSIS
Ferraro has a goal, four shots on net and seven blocks over two games this season. While the Sharks made additions to their blue line in the offseason, Ferraro's defensive skill set will keep him in a top-four role. He's logged 100-plus hits in all six of his NHL campaigns and has added at least 125 blocks in four straight seasons. However, he's topped the 20-point mark just once and will likely struggle to get to that level of offense in 2025-26. Ferraro is in a contract year and could be a trade candidate in the likely event the Sharks aren't in the playoff picture in March.

While Ferraro was able to surpass the 20-point threshold for the first time in his five-year NHL career, fantasy managers probably shouldn't be banking heavily on his offensive upside. The 25-year-old blueliner doesn't have a role with the man advantage and didn't produce at a high level even in college or junior hockey. Still, in certain formats that utilize hits and blocked shots, the Toronto native might have some value considering he racked up 124 and 195, respectively, last season. Perhaps an improved squad around him can increase Ferraro's disastrous plus-minus rating (minus-38 last year) but otherwise, it won't have a significant impact on his 2024-25 campaign.

Interested in long-term deal
Ferraro, who can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026, would like to sign a long-term extension with the Sharks, but there haven't been any contract talks yet, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Ferraro had five goals, 17 points, 53 PIM, 150 hits and 125 blocks in 78 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. He's likely to serve in a top-four capacity for the Sharks this year, but it's not clear what San Jose's long-term plans are for him. If this season goes poorly for the Sharks, the rebuilding squad might opt to trade the 27-year-old at the deadline rather than re-sign him.
