2025 Fantasy Outlook
MacKinnon tied for the league lead with 84 assists and ranked second overall with 116 points across 79 appearances in the 2024-25 regular season. He also had the second-most power-play points (38) and the most shots on goal (320). MacKinnon has been a reliable offensive force while topping 100 points for three consecutive campaigns. He is a high-volume shooter with 40-50 goal upside and 100-plus point potential. When you factor in the fact that he has managed at least 30 power-play points in each of the last eight seasons and it's clear he has earned his place as a fantasy pool building block and will be one of the first players off the board on draft day. Involved in all five goals in win
MacKinnon scored twice on four shots and added three assists in Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canucks.
ANALYSIS
MacKinnon extended his point streak to nine games with a goal at 6:41 of the first period, but he was far from done. He added a power-play goal 89 seconds later and then assisted on the Avalanche's last three tallies of the contest for his best game of the season. He's been the best player on the best team so far, racking up 14 goals and 29 points to lead the NHL in both categories. MacKinnon has added 71 shots on net, eight power-play points and a plus-13 rating through 16 appearances. Given that production, he should be the early favorite for the Hart Trophy, though he has an excellent supporting cast as well.

Despite racking up a career-high 140 points this season, MacKinnon still couldn't secure his first Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's top scorer. That honor went to Nikita Kucherov, who finished with 144 points. Still, MacKinnon captured the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award for his remarkable year. The Nova Scotia native set new personal bests with 51 goals, 89 assists, 405 shots and 48 power-play points. After back-to-back 100-plus point seasons, there is no reason to expect anything less heading into the upcoming campaign. As such, fantasy managers should be expecting MacKinnon to be an early first-round pick in nearly every format.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Linking up with Team Canada
MacKinnon will play for Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, according to NHL insider John Shannon on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
MacKinnon and the Avalanche were eliminated from the playoffs in Game 7 of their first-round series against Dallas on Saturday, but the 29-year-old won't waste much time before lacing the skates back up. MacKinnon amassed 32 goals and 116 points over 79 regular-season contests in 2024-25. He followed that up with seven goals and 11 points across seven postseason appearances -- the star center has now produced at least a point per game in each of his nine playoff runs with the Avalanche. This will be MacKinnon's fourth time representing Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship, and he'll likely link up with fellow Nova Scotia native Sidney Crosby on the No. 1 power-play unit.
