Mikkola had a career year in 2024-25, earning 22 points over 76 regular-season games. While that's not much in the way of offense, the blueliner also had 137 hits, 88 blocked shots and a plus-12 rating as a significant part of the Panthers' defense. Mikkola should settle in around the 20-point mark for a few years, and his physical contributions make him a viable option in deep fantasy formats that reward that kind of production. In standard formats, there are better blueliners available, as Mikkola has no clear path to power-play time and probably won't experience a burst of offense even while playing for one of the strongest teams in the league. Mikkola didn't miss a single game in his first season with the Panthers. He appeared in all 82 regular-season contests in addition to suiting up for all 24 of Florida's postseason battles en route to the Stanley Cup. Mikkola offers nothing offensively -- his 17 points last season were a new career-high -- but he's very valuable from a real-life standpoint, killing penalties and logging tough defensive minutes. The 28-year-old Finn did manage 199 hits and 124 blocks, which combined with a plus-11 rating gives him some modest fantasy value in extremely deep leagues which value such numbers.

Even with the cap going up again next season, the Cats are quickly spending that space with over $80 million already committed to contracts next season. At 29 years of age, a seven or eight-year deal would effectively tie the Finnish blueliner to the club for the better part of his career. Last season, Mikkola set new personal bests with six goals and 16 assists and over 76 regular-season games and should be capable of reaching the 20-point threshold again in 2025-26.
