2025 Fantasy Outlook
Back played mostly on the fourth line for the Stars as a rookie during the 2024-25 regular season, recording four goals and 12 assists in 73 appearances, but he spent a good chunk of the postseason as a healthy scratch. Even if we assume the 25-year-old will go back to playing regularly in 2025-26, he's not a physical presence or a prolific shot blocker, which limits his fantasy appeal when coupled with his mild offensive numbers. Avoid Back unless you're in a deep enough league to warrant carrying a player who projects to record 15-20 points without offering much help in other categories. Read Past Outlooks
Dealing with upper-body injury
Back (upper body) isn't expected to play against Washington on Tuesday, according to Stars beat writer Robert Tiffin.
ANALYSIS
After missing the first eight games of the season due to an undisclosed injury, Back scored a goal and logged 8:28 of ice time against Nashville on Sunday. However, he is dealing with another injury and is considered day-to-day. With Matt Duchene (upper body) and Roope Hintz (undisclosed) also unavailable, Dallas will probably dress 11 forwards and seven defenseman against the Capitals, with Kyle Capobianco entering Tuesday's lineup.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected to begin season in Dallas
Back is expected to begin the 2024-25 regular season with the Stars, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
ANALYSIS
Back is competing with Kole Lind and Arttu Hyry for spots on the Stars' Opening Night roster, and LeVine speculates that Back and Lind are the favorites to begin the year in the NHL due to their experience playing in North America. Even if Back opens the season on the Stars' roster, he doesn't have any NHL experience and could still spend plenty of time with the AHL club this year.
