Olausson was dealt from Colorado to San Jose over the summer. The Swedish winger has appeared in only four career NHL regular-season games, including two with the Avalanche in 2024-25. The 2021 first-round pick suited up for 61 regular-season contests with AHL Colorado last year, recording 11 goals, 26 points and a plus-1 rating. Olausson should have plenty to prove considering he’s entering the final year of his entry-level contract, but he’ll probably spend a large portion of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors, as the Sharks have a crowded forward group going into training camp. The 21-year-old was taken with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. Before the injury, he provided 11 goals and 20 points in 39 contests with AHL Colorado this season. Colorado is light on draft picks, lacking its second-round selection in each of 2024 and 2025 as well as its third-round pick in 2024. With that in mind, trading a prospect of Olausson's caliber might be what the Avalanche ultimately do to gear up for their 2024 playoff run.
