2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was another bumpy road for Grubauer in 2024-25, as he was waived at the end of January and spent a month with AHL Coachella Valley. It's not all that different from what Tristan Jarry went through in Pittsburgh, though playing for the Kraken, Grubauer's demotion got less attention. The difference in situations is that Grubauer doesn't have a clear path to No. 1 status anymore, as Joey Daccord has taken over that role in Seattle. Grubauer still has two years left at a $5.9 million cap hit, so he'll be tough to move even with the salary cap rising. The German is projected to be a backup to begin 2025-26, and after an 8-17-1 season with a 3.49 GAA and a .875 save percentage, there's no reason to assume he'll improve much even in limited usage. Cruises to win
Grubauer stopped 24 of 25 shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Predators.
ANALYSIS
Grubauer picked up his third straight win, and he's allowed exactly one goal in each of them. The Kraken gave him an early 3-0 lead to protect, and Grubauer was up to the task. He's now 7-3-1 with a 2.32 GAA and a .920 save percentage over 13 appearances this season, which are his best numbers in a Kraken uniform. He's still in the backup role behind Joey Daccord, but Grubauer has earned a near-even split of the playing time lately. Daccord figures to start Friday in Vancouver, and the two goalies will likely split a back-to-back early next week with a road game in Calgary on Monday followed by a home matchup versus the Bruins on Tuesday.

Grubauer is easy to dismiss with a line of 14-16-2, a 2.85 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 2023-24, but there's a silver lining that a few fantasy managers will know. He went 5-9-1 with a 3.25 GAA and .884 save percentage in 17 games while playing through an injury. Grubauer was much better after missing 24 contests with a suspected groin issue, going 9-6-1 with a 2.51 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 19 outings. Best case, Grubauer wrestles the starter's reins away from Joey Daccord, who was outstanding last season, and surprises fantasy managers. More likely, he pushes Daccord, and the two men end up in a platoon. The Kraken have upgraded their forward corps and blue line so that extra support will help whoever occupies the net.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to start against Minnesota
Grubauer will likely defend the home crease against the Wild on Monday, Sound of Hockey reports.
ANALYSIS
Grubauer has been relatively effective over a limited sample this season, going 4-0-1 with a 2.62 GAA and .895 save percentage over seven appearances. However, he hasn't seen much playing time recently, as he's appeared in just one of Seattle's last five games, and he hasn't started since Nov. 22. The 34-year-old would have a relatively favorable opponent if he gets the starting nod Monday, as the Wild are scoring 2.69 goals per game this season, which is the seventh-worst mark in the league.
