2025 Fantasy Outlook
Byfield was unable to expand on his breakout year from 2023-24, producing 23 goals and 54 points over 81 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. The 2020 second-overall selection played much of the season in a middle-six role, which likely hindered him from producing offense at a higher rate. The 6-foot-5 power forward has a unique blend of size, speed and skill, but until he can earn a consistent role in the top six, Byfield may have already hit his ceiling. Still, the 23-year-old has a plus-42 rating in his career and saw his ice time increase from 16:29 two seasons ago to 18:37 this past campaign, so he’s on the right trajectory in his development. The hulking center is probably a safe bet to hit the 20-goal and 50-point marks again, but the presence of Anze Kopitar and Phillip Danault up the middle may impede Byfield’s overall production. Pair of points in win
Byfield scored a goal on three shots, dished an assist and added two PIM in Wednesday's 6-5 shootout win over the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Byfield looked impressive in most areas, though he went just 5-for-20 at the faceoff dot. His goal came when he picked off a pass and beat Vegas defenseman Jeremy Lauzon down the middle on a partial breakaway. Byfield also set up Brandt Clarke's game-tying tally with six minutes left in the third period. With two points, seven shots and four hits over his first two games of the year, Byfield could be poised to take his game to the next level, especially if he continues to receive steady top-six minutes. He's posted point totals of 55 and 54 over the last two regular seasons, but he could push for 60-plus this year.

2020
After contributing a mere eight goals and 32 points in 93 games over his previous two seasons, Byfield broke out in 2023-24 with 20 tallies and 35 assists over 80 regular-season contests. He also set new personal bests with 161 shots on net, 66 hits, 19 blocked shots and 14 power-play points. Byfield received an increased role, spending most of his playing time on the first line and seeing action on the top power-play unit. He was rewarded in the offseason with a five-year, $31.25 million contract extension. Byfield only recorded two goals and seven assists in 23 games to finish the regular season, which is concerning, however, his improvements indicate a positive trend for his fantasy value in 2024-25 as long as he maintains his spots in the lineup alongside Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe at even strength and on the man advantage.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Extension forthcoming
Byfield and the Kings are expected to announce a long-term extension Monday, Russell Morgan of Hockey Royalty reports.
ANALYSIS
Byfield is a restricted free agent following the expiration of his entry-level deal, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to see the Kings locking the youngster up long-term. The Ontario native appears to have taken the next step in his development, playing in 80 regular-season contests this past year in which he racked up 20 goals and 35 helpers, including 14 power-play points. If he continues to develop, Byfield should be capable of improving upon those numbers during the 2024-25 season.
