2025 Fantasy Outlook
After recording at least 39 points in three straight campaigns, Andersson’s production took a downturn in 2024-25 to the tune of 11 goals and 31 points over 81 appearances. The 2015 second-round pick set a career high in blocked shots (196), shots on goal (163) and power-play markers (three), but his minus-38 rating was by far the worst mark of his career. The Swedish blueliner has missed only eight regular-season games over the last four years, but he has played second fiddle to MacKenzie Weegar among Calgary blueliners in back-to-back campaigns. Looking ahead to 2025-26, Andersson is a candidate to rebound based on his track record since 2021-22, and he’ll be an unrestricted free agent after this season, so the 28-year-old should have plenty of motivation. Ideally, he could get back to the 40-point mark with the chance to record 200 blocked shots for the first time in his career. Read Past Outlooks
Earns pair of points Thursday
Andersson scored an empty-net goal on six shots, dished an assist, went plus-3 and blocked four shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Wild.
ANALYSIS
The defenseman set up Jonathan Huberdeau's opening goal in the middle frame before adding the empty-netter in the third period. Andersson has slowed down a bit recently but still picked up six helpers during his six-game goal drought prior to Thursday. For the season, he's up to six goals, 20 points, 66 shots on net, 57 blocked shots, 34 PIM and an even plus-minus rating through 29 appearances in what's shaping up as a bounce-back campaign.

Andersson had two great seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23 in which he recorded 50 and 49 points, respectively. He took a step back last year, though, finishing with nine goals and 39 points across 78 contests with the Flames. His decline can be explained by his reduced power-play role -- he went from 21 points with the man advantage in 2022-23 to just eight last year. That's because Calgary acquired defenseman Yegor Sharangovich from New Jersey in the summer of 2023, and he was given a spot on the top power-play unit while Andersson slid to the second grouping. That arrangement is expected to continue in 2024-25, which makes an offensive bounce back from Andersson unlikely. Still, roughly 40 points is nothing to sneeze at, and the 27-year-old should also be counted on to provide over 130 blocks for the third straight campaign.

Could still get traded
Andersson and the Flames have left the door open to extension talks, but a trade before the deadline is still on the table, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Andersson was nearly traded to Vegas over the summer after previously turning down a six-year deal from the Flames. According to LeBrun, the blueliner would likely be willing to re-sign with the club if a max-length, eight-year deal was handed to him, but things still could be headed for a change of scenery -- especially if the Flames get off to a tough start this season.
