2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sandin has carved out a top-four role for himself in Washington, but he hasn’t developed into a big-name defenseman from an offensive standpoint. His four goals and 30 points across 82 regular-season outings in 2024-25 was fine, but not great. However, he’s now 25 years old, so it’s becoming unlikely that there’s another level to his game, and even if there was, the continued presence of blueliners John Carlson and Jakob Chychrun limit Sandin’s power-play opportunities and therefore his overall ceiling on offense. Pencil Sandin in for another 25-35 points while also anticipating 20-40 PIM, 75-plus hits and 100-plus blocks. Read Past Outlooks
Won't travel to Big D
Sandin (upper body) will not make the trip for Tuesday's road clash with the Stars, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
ANALYSIS
Sandin will miss his third straight game due to his lingering upper-body issue. Prior to getting hurt, the 25-year-old blueliner was still looking for his first goal of the season, though he's registered only four shots in seven games, which doesn't make it easy for him to find the back of the net.

A popular breakout pick for 2023-24, Sandin didn't live up to the hype, registering 23 points and 106 blocked shots in 68 regular-season games in his first full year with the Capitals. This was one year removed from a 35-point effort in 71 contests. While Sandin will maintain a top-four role and also see time with the second power-play unit in 2024-25, the addition of Jakob Chychrun via trade from the Senators gives Washington two offense-first blueliners. As such, Sandin may be forced into more of a shutdown role. Pencil him in for 25-30 points, but the 24-year-old's upside is more limited than it was heading into last year.

ANALYSIS
Sandin failed to register a point across five playoff games against Carolina in the first round, but he had a solid regular season in his second full year with the Capitals, contributing four goals, 26 helpers and a plus-13 rating over 82 appearances. The undefeated Swedes close out group play Tuesday against the Canadians, who lost to the Finns 2-1 on Monday in a shootout.
