2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rakell finished with 15 goals and 37 points across 70 appearances in 2023-24, but he bounced back last year, setting career highs with 35 goals and 70 points over 81 outings. One significant factor working for Rakell in 2024-25 was his regular placement alongside Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust. That trio was together for 46.8 percent of Rakell’s even-strength ice time last season, which was a nice change of pace for Rakell. Rakell’s shooting percentage also skyrocketed to 17.2 compared to 9.1 in 2023-24 and his career average of 11.7. That part is concerning, because while it’s plausible that he’ll continue to skate with Crosby, Rakell’s shooting percentage will likely decline. Rakell was abnormally unproductive in 2023-24, but he seems more likely to put up numbers similar to his 2022-23 totals (28 goals, 60 points) than matching the heights he achieved last season. Activated off injured reserve
Rakell (hand) was taken off injured reserve Friday.
ANALYSIS
Rakell will return to the lineup versus the Sharks on Saturday and figures to slot back into a first-line role alongside Sidney Crosby. Prior to his 20-game stint on injured reserve, the Swedish winger was rolling offensively with three goals and five helpers in the first nine games of the year. In addition to joining Crosby on the top line, Rakell figures to also slot into the No. 1 power-play unit.

Describing Rakell's 2023-24 campaign as anything other than disappointing would be an understatement considering he recorded just 37 points in 70 regular-season contests. Those numbers are a far cry from the 60 points he put up the prior campaign, a number that included 21 power-play points. Despite the slump, the Penguins did little in free agency to impact the Swede's role for the upcoming campaign, as he figures to remain entrenched on the second line alongside Evgeni Malkin. Having said that, a continued lack of production from Rakell could see youngsters like Valtteri Puustinen pushing for a bigger role and possibly even supplanting Rakell on the second power-play unit.
