Ryan McLeod

24-Year-Old CenterC
Buffalo Sabres
2023 Fantasy Outlook
McLeod solidified his place as the Oilers' third-line center last season, though he also saw occasional opportunities in the top six. The 23-year-old had 23 points, 78 shots on goal and a plus-4 rating in 57 contests. He enters 2023-24 in line for a similar role, though with the Oilers' top-heavy offense, he may have a tough time producing much more than 40 points even if he takes a step forward on offense. He's likely to be limited to the second power-play unit, though he can also make an impact with his shorthanded play. There's enough upside to consider McLeod in deeper formats, but he's little more than a late-round dart throw. Read Past Outlooks

July 5, 2024
McLeod was acquired by the Sabres from the Oilers along with Tyler Tullio on Friday in exchange for Matthew Savoie, according to Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
ANALYSIS
Edmonton was presumably looking to clear McLeod's $2.1 million cap hit for the 2024-25 campaign despite the 24-year-old holding his own last campaign. McLeod had 12 goals and 30 points across 81 regular-season contests, but he was likely to be relegated to the fourth line for 2024-25 after Edmonton re-signed Adam Henrique and brought in free agents Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. McLeod might earn a role on Buffalo's third unit.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
McLeod was a real bright spot for the Oilers last season, posting nine goals and 21 points in 71 games despite playing the entire year at age 22. McLeod's greatest asset is his speed. He can wreak havoc on the forecheck and that helps him create scoring chances, even when playing in a bottom-six role. It's going to be difficult for McLeod to carve out fantasy value on an Edmonton team which relies so heavily on its top-two lines, but he's an ideal depth player given his youth and skill set.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set to be traded
CEdmonton Oilers
July 5, 2024
McLeod is expected to be traded from the Oilers to the Sabres, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
McLeod had 12 goals and 30 points in 81 regular-season outings with Edmonton in 2023-24. His departure would clear $2.1 million in cap space for the Oilers next season. After re-signing Adam Henrique and inking free agents Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson, McLeod probably wouldn't have had more than a fourth-line role with Edmonton had he stayed. Buffalo might instead use him on the third line.
