Adjusting to AHL play
LWCalgary Flames  Minors
February 12, 2025
Honzek has 18 points over 36 games with AHL Calgary this season.
ANALYSIS
Honzek received five games of NHL action early in the season, though an injury and a lack of scoring production made it a quick return for him to a lower level. After producing 87 points over 76 appearances with WHL Vancouver across the previous two seasons, Honzek has needed an adjustment in the professional ranks. The winger is just 20 years old, so he's got plenty of time to round out his game before being a more regular NHL option.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Honzek was limited by injury in 2023-24, but he was great when healthy, supplying 10 goals and 31 points in 33 regular-season appearances with WHL Vancouver. Selected by Calgary with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old has tremendous two-way potential and has an opportunity to make an immediate impact with the Flames this campaign. After a fantastic preseason, Honzek not only made the Opening Night roster but has potentially earned a spot on the top six. The Slovakia native is likely to have growing pains at the NHL level, but under ideal circumstances, he might be able to get to the 40-point mark this year. Just keep in mind that it's equally possible he'll prove to be not quite ready for the big league and ultimately spend big chunks of the season in the AHL, which he's eligible to be assigned to this season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Headed to Worlds
LWCalgary Flames  Minors
April 28, 2025
Honzek will join Slovakia at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Honzek saw action in just five NHL games this year in which he failed to register a point while garnering six shots, six hits and two blocks. The 20-year-old winger was slightly more effective in the minors, generating 21 points in 52 games, but he'll likely need to bring more to the table next year if he wants to break into the NHL. Representing Slovakia at Worlds should help bolster his resume heading into training camp in the fall.
