The Islanders spent parts of the last five years looking for every excuse possible not to play Aho, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that he struggled whenever given an extended look. He appeared in 58 regular-season games last year, managing just two goals and nine points. Aho had some strong offensive years in the AHL when he first arrived in North America but it simply hasn't translated to the NHL. The Swede inked a two-year, $1.55 million contract with the Penguins in free agency. Aho will head to training camp with the intent of winning a job on Pittsburgh's third defensive pair.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Expected to sign with Pens
Aho is closing in on a contract with Pittsburgh, Taylor Haase of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Aho was limited to just 58 regular-season games with the Islanders last year in which he generated two goals on 48 shots, seven assists and 72 blocks. Combined with the addition of Matt Grzelcyk, the 28-year-old Aho is far from a lock to make the Opening Night roster in Pittsburgh and would likely need to edge out Jack St. Ivany and John Ludvig, who underwent offseason wrist surgery.
