2025 Projections

Strong showing with Gulls
Luneau has earned 26 points over 31 appearances with AHL San Diego this season.
ANALYSIS
Luneau has seen a total of 13 NHL games over the last two seasons, earning three points. He lost most of 2023-24 due to an infection in his knee, but he's come back strong in 2024-25. He also has a minus-9 rating, but that is due to the Gulls being one of the worst teams in the AHL. Despite their struggles overall, Luneau has adjusted to the professional ranks pretty well. The one concern is that he's been jumped in the developmental pipeline by players like Drew Helleson and Olen Zellweger, which could make cracking the Ducks' NHL roster difficult in the near future. Still, Luneau is just 21 years old and has time to round out his all-around game.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Luneau got his first taste of pro hockey in 2023-24, providing a goal and three points in seven games with Anaheim as well as two assists in six contests with AHL San Diego, but he didn't play beyond December because of a knee infection that prevented him from dressing for Team Canada in the World Juniors or reporting to QMJHL Gatineau, which might have otherwise been the plan, after the tournament. Missing so much ice time likely delayed the 20-year-old's development, but he still has a lot of upside and is projected to get another shot with the Ducks to start the 2024-25 campaign. Luneau is an offensively gifted blueliner, which should make him a great asset in fantasy leagues eventually. However, he might not get enough work, especially on the power play, to warrant grabbing in single-season formats, so for now, it's better to just monitor his situation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Promotion unlikely
Luneau is expected to close 2024-25 with AHL San Diego, Derek Lee of The Hockey News reports.
ANALYSIS
Luneau needs to work on some things in the minors, so he won't join a crowded, young blue line in Anaheim. The defenseman doesn't need to worry about his offense -- he's impressed with 40 points over 41 contests for the Gulls, but his defensive development apparently still needs work.
