Thompson had high expectations entering the season after erupting for 47 goals and 94 points across 78 outings in the 2022-23 campaign. He only produced 29 goals and 56 points over 71 games in 2023-24, making him one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of the year. Thompson also plummeted from 20 power-play goals to nine while falling behind in both shot generation and finishing ability. Still, the Arizona native surpassed 245 shots on target for the third straight campaign and registered 21 points, including 11 goals, in his final 18 outings. Thompson is expected to be ready for training camp after sustaining a lower-body injury in Buffalo's regular-season finale. He is a good bet to rebound in 2024-25, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him return to being a point-per-game player.
