2024 Fantasy Outlook
Desharnais was a full-time player for the Oilers last season, appearing in 78 of 82 regular-season games before being scratched for nine of Edmonton's final 10 postseason appearances. He offered nothing offensively, managing just a single goal and 11 points. Desharnais did post 134 hits and 122 blocks but even those numbers aren't significant enough to give him value in such formats. Desharnais inked a two-year, $4 million contract with the rival Canucks in free agency and he will go about attempting to win a bottom-pairing role with his new club. Read Past Outlooks

Desharnais (upper body) won't play Saturday versus the Rangers and won't be available for San Jose's upcoming two-game road trip, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
ANALYSIS
Desharnais played through an injury in Thursday's shootout win over Toronto, but he'll be out until at least April 3 versus Edmonton. He has three assists, 87 hits, 83 blocked shots and 45 PIM in 51 contests with Vancouver, Pittsburgh and San Jose this season. Jimmy Schuldt will replace Desharnais in Saturday's lineup.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Desharnais got his first taste of NHL action in 2022-23, racking up five assists, 45 hits, 48 blocked shots, 31 PIM and a plus-14 rating in 36 games. He played primarily on the third pairing, averaging just 13:33 of ice time. At 27 years old, Desharnais doesn't project to be much more than a physical blueliner who will likely peak in a bottom-four role. He may get some NHL action in 2023-24, but there's not enough offense here to justify a fantasy roster spot in the vast majority of formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might play in Game 2
DEdmonton Oilers
June 10, 2024
Desharnais could rejoin the lineup for Game 2 against the Panthers on Monday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Desharnais has served as a healthy scratch for the Oilers' last four games but looks poised to reclaim a spot in the lineup Monday. If the 28-year-old blueliner does suit up, it may not be a straight defenseman-for-defenseman swap, as it seems Edmonton might be willing to roll with seven blueliners. If that's the case, Corey Perry could find himself back in the press box as a healthy scratch.
