Wyatt Johnston

Wyatt Johnston

21-Year-Old CenterC
Dallas Stars
2024 Fantasy Outlook
There was no sophomore slump in 2023-24 for Johnston, as the second-year center put up 32 goals, 33 assists and 216 shots on net over 82 regular-season contests. The 21-year-old also emerged as an all-situations player for the Stars, who had previously been known as a one-line team. Johnston's on a star path already, and he's shown excellent durability by not missing a game over his first two seasons. He could carry his own line, perhaps with fellow top prospect Logan Stankoven, though it's also possible the Stars consider Johnston as an option to fill the spot vacated by Joe Pavelski on the top line. Fantasy managers should expect Johnston's 65-point effort from last season to be his floor moving forward, with a 70-80-point effort being reasonable for 2024-25. Read Past Outlooks

Plays big role in win
CDallas Stars
February 2, 2025
Johnston scored a power-play goal on eight shots, dished an assist and blocked two shots in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jackets.
ANALYSIS
This was the third time Johnston has had at least eight shots in a game this season. His tally tied the contest at 3-3 in the second period, and he also set up the second of Evgenii Dadonov's goals in the third to help the Stars get the win. Johnston is absolutely rolling right now with five goals and 10 assists over his last 10 outings. The 21-year-old has a total of 15 goals, 30 helpers, 12 power-play points, 139 shots and a plus-13 rating through 52 appearances.

NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings Plays and Strategy for Sunday, January 19
15 days ago
Wyatt Johnston has tallied 18 points in his last 16 games. Either as a one-off or Stars stack option, he is a solid choice for Sunday's DraftKings NHL DFS slate.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
While it didn't end in a Calder Trophy nomination, Johnston's rookie year was a success. Not only did he play in all 82 games, he looked like he belonged with 41 points, 160 shots on net and a plus-6 rating in 2022-23. He faded in the playoffs with just six points in 19 games, but that's not a big concern for his long-term outlook. Just 20 years old, he already looks like a capable second-line center, especially with the guidance of Jamie Benn or Tyler Seguin on his wing to provide stability, depending on the lineup. Johnston shot 15 percent last year, which probably isn't sustainable, but he should be able to increase his shot volume and see a bump in ice time in 2023-24, which could help him exceed 50 points in his second campaign.

Not on trade block
CDallas Stars
December 19, 2022
Dallas is not interested in moving Johnston in a trade this season, Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnston has seven goals and 12 points through 32 games so far in his rookie campaign. Dallas clearly believes that the 19-year-old will be a long-term fixture in the lineup but that could stall some negotiations if a potential trade partner is looking for some young NHL talent in return.
