2025 Fantasy Outlook
The first season of Trenin's four-year, $14 million deal with Minnesota was a mixed bag. His 15 points in 76 regular-season games were his lowest offensive output since 2020-21, but the 28-year-old did rank 12th in the NHL with a career-high 241 hits. The physical winger also helped in the postseason, dishing out 34 hits and picking up a couple of assists across six outings. If he can reclaim some of the secondary scoring he provided earlier in his career -- his career high in goals is 17 from 2021-22 -- Trenin could be an important part of the Wild's supporting cast. Trenin ended a 13-game goal drought when he scored the eventual game-winner at 14:45 of the second period. He had five assists during that span, and he picked up a helper on Danila Yurov's first goal Friday as well. In a bottom-six role this season, Trenin has amassed three goals, 14 points, 52 shots on net, 205 hits and a plus-9 rating over 42 appearances. He's on track to become just the second player to reach 400 hits in a season after Kiefer Sherwood's record-setting 462 hits last year. Trenin is also on pace to top the 20-point mark for the first time since 2022-23.

Trenin has settled in as one of the more underrated defensive forwards in the NHL. He began last season in Nashville before being dealt to Colorado at the trade deadline. His overall offensive numbers -- 12 goals, 17 points in 76 regular-season games -- were roughly in line with the prior two campaigns. Trenin made a significant leap in the hits department, his 207 was a new career-best mark. He inked a four-year deal worth $14 million with the Wild in free agency and should serve in a similar bottom-six role with his new club starting this fall.
