To return against Gastelum
WelterweightUFC
March 28, 2024
Rodriguez will take on Kelvin Gastelum at the UFC even scheduled for June 22 in Saudi Arabia, UFC President Dana White announced Wednesday night.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez has hit a bit of a rough patch, as he lost back-to-back fights before serving a six-month suspension due to a positive drug test. He'll be cleared by June, however, when he'll face a veteran fighter and big name in Gastelum on a high-profile card. On paper, Rodriguez is four inches taller and will enter with a three-inch reach advantage, in addition to a statistical advantage in striking volume. Those factors could loom large in a matchup that will likely be primarily a striking battle.

Suspended six months
WelterweightUFC
October 17, 2023
The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Rodriguez on Tuesday for six months due to a positive drug test, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The suspension is retroactive to August, when Rodriguez initially announced that he would withdraw from a Sept. 16 matchup with Santiago Ponzinibbio on account of the positive test. Rodriguez's suspension will lapse in late January.
Announces positive drug test
WelterweightUFC
August 17, 2023
Rodriguez announced a positive drug test that will prevent him from fighting Santiago Ponzinibbio in a welterweight bout at UFC Noche on Sept. 16.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez tested positive for ostarine which is a banned performance-enhancing drug linked to several tainted supplement cases. Rodriguez claims that the positive sample had an extremely low level of the banned PEDs and that he's working with his manager and the UFC to get to the bottom of this.

Rodriguez will take on Santiago Ponzinibbio in a welterweight bout at UFC Noche on Sept. 16, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez is coming off a tough loss at the hands of Ian Gerry. He lasted just under three minutes, and the fight wasn't particularly competitive. It was his second loss in a row, and he'll look to get back on the winning side of the octagon for the first time since September of 2022.
Destroyed by Ian Garry
WelterweightUFC
May 13, 2023
Rodriguez lost to Ian Garry via TKO (strikes) at 2:57 of Round 1 at UFC on ABC 4 on Saturday in Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
It's the first knockout loss of Rodriguez's professional career, which is saying something because we have seen him take some beatings over the years without issue. Daniel began his UFC run with seven victories in his first nine bouts, but as a one-dimensional boxer that doesn't throw kicks and possesses limited athleticism, he's consistently going to be at risk of being overwhelmed against an all-around opponent such as Garry. "D-Rod" got clipped with a head kick which forced him to stumble and eventually led to the stoppage. Already 36 years of age, there's an extreme likelihood we have already seen the best Rodriguez has to offer inside the Octagon.
Matching up with Ian Garry
WelterweightUFC
March 23, 2023
Rodriguez (undisclosed) agreed to face Ian Garry in a welterweight fight at UFC's May 13 event, Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez was removed from his matchup against Gunnar Nelson at UFC 286 in February but won't have to wait too long before returning to the Octagon. He lost to Neil Magny late last year, which broke a stretch of four straight victories. Garry is a perfect 11-0 in his professional career and is coming off a victory over Song Kenan in early March.
