Dominates in UFC debut
BantamweightUFC

Martinez defeated Saimon Oliveira via TKO (strikes) at 4:38 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
In early-October, Martinez took a unanimous decision on Dana White's Contender Series to earn his UFC opportunity. A handful of months later, he found himself as a -800 favorite for his official company debut in his home country. He delivered. Facing a lower-level opponent without the ability to match his explosiveness, Martinez delivered a flurry of blows, most notably a right hook and a knee which eventually put Oliveira away. He would go on to earn a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts. We'll have to see how Martinez looks against better competition, but his UFC run couldn't have started any better.

Martinez will fight Saimon Oliveira at UFC Mexico on March 29, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Martinez owns an 11-1 record as a professional fighter, and he'll have a decent shot at starting his UFC career strong versus Oliveira, who has lost both of his fights since joining the promotion in 2022.
Awarded contract despite decision
BantamweightUFC
October 2, 2024
Martinez defeated Xavier Franklin via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
While he didn't get the finish as roughly a (-170) betting favorite, Martinez swept the scorecards of all three judges after coming out ahead in the striking department in all three rounds. Martinez was also the more diverse striker, incorporating heavy leg kicks and firing off multiple combinations. A Round 3 superman punch put a stamp on this victory, even if it didn't earn him the finish. The 26-year-old from Mexico will now enter the UFC's bantamweight division with a 11-1-0 professional record, having previously competed under the banner of Combate Global. His only career loss is of the split-decision variety.
