David Onama
Silent Assassin

Uganda
Quickly finished in main event
Onama lost to Steve Garcia via TKO (punches) at 3:34 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Entering on a four-fight winning streak and competing in his first UFC main event, this was the biggest fight of Onama's career, and it didn't go well, to put it mildly. Onama is at his best when he gets in a rhythm and can start pressuring his opponent, but it was Garcia that was on the gas here. Onama handled the first couple dozen blows fine, but it was all downhill from there. In fact, this fight could have been stopped a good 15-20 seconds earlier if referee Herb Dean was on top of things. David is a solid fighter, and this result doesn't change that, but there's clearly quite a gap between him and the best in the division at 145 pounds.

To fight Steve Garcia
Onama will fight Steve Garcia at UFC Vegas 110 on Nov. 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Onama, who is coming off his fourth straight win after defeating Giga Chikadze via unanimous decision back in April, will certainly have his hands full with Garcia in what will be the headline fight of the event. Garcia has won six straight bouts, setting this up to be perhaps the biggest fight of Onama's career.

Picks up fourth straight win
Onama defeated Giga Chikadze via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
It's quite the result for Onama. Not only does he walk away with the biggest win of his career, but he also leaves with 20 percent of Chikadze's purse after the latter missed weight by a pound Friday morning. That said, it was far from a flawless effort. Onama didn't look very good on the feet, which isn't surprising given Giga is a stand-up specialist. To David's credit, he recognized things weren't really working and got to his grappling, landing one takedown in each round and racking up 5:31 of control time over the final ten minutes to earn the decision. He's won four straight dating back to June 2023 and is due for another step up in competition.

Fight with Chikadze still on
Onama will still take on Giga Chikadze in a featherweight bout despite the latter missing weight, per Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Chikadze weighed in at 147 pounds, missing the featherweight limit by one pound. He'll forfeit 20 percent of his purse, and the fight will go on as scheduled. Onama was won three straight, most recently disposing of Roberto Romero, and he'll look to make it four against Chikadze.

Finds range after slow start
Onama defeated Roberto Romero via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Accepting a late-notice opponent change and entering as a -1450 favorite, largest on the entire card, Onama figured things out despite a slow start. This was a rout by the time the final bell rang, but things were hairy for the favorite in Round 1. He was knocked down early on and seemed to be in real trouble before quickly recovering and turning the tables on the debuting Romero. Onama got stronger as the fight progressed, which wasn't a surprise given the fact he was the one with a full training camp under his belt. Now 5-1 in his past six fights dating back to February 2022, Onama looks better every time we see him, and he's quickly climbing the rankings in a loaded lightweight division.
