Losing streak hits three
HeavyweightUFC
May 3, 2025
Mayes lost to Thomas Petersen via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 25-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
ANALYSIS
As you can see by the scorecards, Mayes struggled just a bit. Don'Tale is a massive human being and a halfway decent striker, but he has no grappling game to speak of and was completely grounded by Petersen this evening. Mayes showed plenty of heart in seeing the final bell in a fight in which he had zero chance of winning, but that's the only positive to take away from this performance. He landed three significant strikes the entire bout. 33 years old and the loser of three straight and four of his last five, Mayes is likely to be released in the near future.

March 18, 2025
Mayes is scheduled to compete against Thomas Petersen in a heavyweight fight at UFC Des Moines on May 3, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Mayes will have a second chance to get back on track. The first opportunity saw him try to prevent back-to-back losses only for him to submit to a heel hook from Valter Walker within four minutes. Petersen is also fighting off a loss via a knockout punch by Shamil Gaziev.
Struggles continue in Vegas

February 15, 2025
Mayes lost to Valter Walker via submission (heel hook) at 1:17 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was another woeful performance from Mayes, who lasted just a shade over a minute. Known as a striker with limited power and no grappling game, Don'Tale gave up an immediate takedown to Walker, who eventually rolled into position to clamp on the heel hook. It was essentially over before it started. A loser of two in a row and three of four dating back to November 2023, Mayes is just about out of time.
Schedules next opponent

December 13, 2024
Mayes will face Valter Walker in a heavyweight bout at UFC Vegas 102 on Feb. 15, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Mayes is coming off a loss at the hands of Shamil Gaziev to drop his UFC record to 4-5. Thus, this is a huge bout for the heavyweight, as he's in danger of falling to two fights under .500. His opponent Walker, meanwhile, is much less experienced. He's coming off a win in just his second career UFC fight.
No-shows Abu Dhabi defeat
HeavyweightUFC
August 3, 2024
Mayes lost to Shamil Gaziev via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
We've seen some lousy efforts from Mayes over the years, but this was unquestionably one of the worst. A one-dimensional brawler with zero means of generating secondary offense, Mayes spent nearly 12 minutes (11:58) of this fight being controlled by Gaziev on the mat. He was either unable or unwilling to do what was necessary to work his way back to his feet, and he lost a lopsided unanimous decision as a result. The very definition of roster depth, Mayes is just 4-5 (1NC) in 10 UFC bouts despite the fact he has been fighting low-level competition his entire run.
Scheduled against Gaziev
HeavyweightUFC
July 3, 2024
Mayes is scheduled to compete against Shamil Gaziev in a heavyweight fight at UFC Abu Dhabi on Aug. 3, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
A month from now, Mayes will look to build a winning streak by defeating Gaziev. He got back in the win column by defeating Caio Machado via unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 55.
