Earns contract in DWCS opener
Johnson defeated DDarion Abbey via TKO (punches) at 1:04 of Round 1 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
In the opening bout of the evening, both heavyweights came out looking to swing, but it was the undefeated Johnson who had the speed advantages, and his strikes found their mark first. He backed his opponent up against the fence, and it wasn't long before referee Mark Smith was calling off the proceedings. Johnson entered this fight as the noticeably smaller man, as he stands at 5-foot-8 and weighed in at only 209 pounds. A move to light heavyweight, or even lower, could be on the horizon, especially considering he likely didn't have to cut weight at all for this fight.
