Next fight scheduled
Barboza is scheduled to compete against Lerone Murphy in a featherweight fight at the UFC Apex's May 18 event, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Barboza will look to continue his positive momentum from 2023. That year, he went 2-0, wins which included a first-round knockout of Billy Quarantillo and a five-round decision win over Sodiq Yusuff. However, Murphy's opponent is surging, remaining undefeated in his MMA career and after having six fights with the UFC.

Survives flurry for huge victory
Barboza defeated Sodiq Yusuff via unanimous decision (49-46, 48-46, 48-46) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a trademark Barboza performance in many ways. Of course, he was obliterated and nearly finished in Round 1 and almost didn't have a chance to pull off what felt live like a miracle comeback. Now 37 years of age, Edson could have packed it in and went home following an opening round in which Yusuff nearly ran him out of the UFC Apex. Yet, he hung around and capitalized on his tiring opponent, remaining aggressive and stringing together combinations when the opportunities presented themselves. Barboza won each of the final four rounds on all three judges scorecards, a testament to the dedication and resilience of the veteran. Edson is nowhere near as effective as he was in his heyday, and he's still at risk of getting pinned to the mat for long stretches at a time if he is facing an opponent that attempts to wrestle him, but this effort showed he's still plenty effective in a back-and-forth kickboxing match. On top of the victory, he'll also go home with an extra $50,000 after the matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Yusuff fight now five-rounder
Barboza will compete against Sodiq Yusuff in a five-round fight at UFC Vegas 81 on Oct. 14, according to Nolan King of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
Previously a three-round fight, the Barboza-Yusuff bout was elevated to five rounds so that it could headline Vegas 81 on short notice. In terms of experience, Barboza easily has an edge, having prepared for multiple five-round fights across his tenured UFC career.

Vintage performance in win
Barboza defeated Billy Quarantillo via KO (knee) at 2:37 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
We all know Barboza has lost a step at age 37, and the days of him competing against the best in the world have come and gone, but he is still capable of brilliant performances, as we saw here. Knowing full well Quarantillo was going to attempt to drag him to the mat, Edson stuffed both of Billy's takedown attempts before kneeing him square in the face when he ducked down for a third try. It landed flush, sending Quarantillo crashing to the mat and ending the fight on the spot. The impressive stoppage would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus -- his first of that variety since 2017. Edson's 3-5 record in his last eight fights dating back to March 2019 is dreadful, but there's plenty of gas left in the tank here if the UFC is careful regarding who it matches Barboza up against moving forward.
