Guram Kutateladze

Georgian Viking

Georgia

Falls as monumental favorite
LightweightUFC
July 1, 2023
Kutateladze lost to Elves Brener via TKO (punches) at 3:17 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Stepping in for Jordan Leavitt on a few weeks' notice and entering as an overwhelming -700 favorite, Kutateladze was getting the better of a wild back-and-forth brawl and won each of the first two rounds on all three judges scorecards, but he never appeared to be fully comfortable during the bout. There's zero question Guram had a significant power edge. He probably would have finished Brener late in Round 2 if there had been just a handful of more seconds on the clock, but one short shot from Brener early in the final frame forced Kutateladze to the mat, forcing referee Chris Tognoni to step in. It was likely the combination of a damaging blow and Kutateladze being totally exhausted which resulted in the finish. Guram being rising lightweight star Mateusz Gamrot in his company debut back in October 2020, but he's gone on to lose two in a row since.
